English Census Searches
The British Government began keeping censuses in England in 1841. This first census was basic in nature and rounded off the ages for all persons listed in the household. Beginning in 1851, the censuses became more detailed with names, ages, marital status, occupation, place born (parish and county), and street address. In the case of persons born outside of England, the censuses from 1851 will often state simply the country of origin such as "Ireland" or "Scotland" and occasionally the parish and county would also be listed. The 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1881, 1891, 1901 censuses are available for study and most are indexed. This allows for careful searches to be conducted. However, as with all historical research, whether your ancestor is found depends on the quality of the indexing, whether your family was actually enumerated, and how careful the information was written by the census taker. Radford Noone Research offers searches of these records based upon one year and one family. The results will be forwarded to you by mail. Please select the year to be searched and fill out the information form with your order.
