Canada is comprised of many varied provinces each with their own system of record keeping. Canada is several very important links with the United States. During the Revolutionary War, many American families loyal to the British were forced into exile in Canada. Later many American families would cross into the western provinces to home stead as land opened. Canadian families would often come across the border into the United States where they homesteaded land, took factory jobs in urban areas, or simply came to be with family who had come before. Also many bound for the United States came through Canadian ports as the passage was often cheaper. For these reasons one cannot think of immigration to one country without considering the other.
